Quarterly Meeting Minutes

1. Welcoming remarks

President Lee welcomed the members and the newcomer to the general meeting.
Newcomer: Julie Jung is a first year student at San Jose State University, School of Library and Information Science program.

2.Introduction of members and officers for 2003

President Lee introduced members to the newcomer and re-announced the officers for 2003 as follows:
President: Youngsil Lee
Vice President: Haewon Paick
Secretary: Chungsil Kim
Treasurer: Keumsook Han
Membership Chair: Choonhee Rhim

3. KALIPA Treasurer's Report

Since the KALIPA treasurer, Keumsook Han, was not able to attend the meeting, President Lee read the report. The balance is $2,718.89 as of October 10, 2003. However since Linda Sue Park's hotel cost had not been reimbursed yet, the actual balance would be around $2,500.00

4. Discussion

Letters and applications will be sent to the library schools in Los Angeles area, UCLA and San Jose State University.
Scholarship announcement letter will be posted on the KALIPA website.
KALIPA would award one scholarship of $500.00 to a student of Korean heritage studying library and information science.
The deadline for the application is December 15, 2003.
The recipient of the scholarship will be announced at the KALIPA's 2004 February meeting.

Program Ideas
Discussion to help Korean-American library patrons
KALIPA will publish a User Guide booklet explaining how to use a public library to help Korean American patrons who are not familiar with the Public library system.
KALIPA will submit proposal to KCCLA (Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles) for sponsorship of the user guide booklet.
As a first step, for the proposal writing a sub-committee was formed as follows: Youngsil Lee, Sun-yoon Lee, Chungsil Kim and Taeok Shin.
Details regarding the contents and the distribution methods of the User Guide Booklet will be further discussed and advice will be gathered from the members.

5. Items from members

President Lee proposed to share members' personal ups and downs and encourage one another. Items will be collected and shared through e-mail among members. Active participation is encouraged and anyone who wants to share the news needs to send the news items to grckm@yahoo.com (Chungsil Kim's e-mail).

6. Next Meeting

Tentative scheduling for next meeting is at the end of January 2004. President Lee suggested that in the next meeting in January we should attempt to gather former members as well for a big get-together.
