1. Welcome New librarian, Soo-jin Kim, recent graduate from UCLA Library School started as a Children's Librarian at Memorial Branch of Los Angeles Public Library in October 13, 2008.- Welcome to KALIPA!

2. Treasurers Report:- Balance as of September 30, 2008 is $2819.00

3. Library Users Guide: After 5 years of hard work and unforeseen delays, the final product is ready to be distributed.- It will be uploaded to KALIPAs website, as well. The color theme is reflected to the four colors from the Korean flag: red, blue, white, and black.

The Guide was distributed as follows: Korean Cultural Center - 500; UCLA and USC - 10 each; Glendale Pub - 50; County of LAPL - 100; Cerritos Pub - 50; Various Korean Churches - 100; and Pio Pico Koreatown Branch (LAPL) 500 International Languages (LAPL) - 500 Many contributed and spent many hours for revising, but special thanks should be given to Dave Won (LAPL, International Languages Dept.) who spent countless hours to finalize the guide.

4. Scholarship: Choon-hee Rhim (East LA College) suggested that we select two recipients this time; one from California and the other from New York area. It was decided to send out announcements nationwide and select two recipients.

The Scholarship committee was formed: Heawon Paick (LAPL), Chair, Sun-yoon Lee (USC), Esther Hahn (UCLA), Eun-joo Lee (East LA College).

Announcement will go out sometime in November with application deadline by January 31, 2009 and Award Announcement in February 2009.

5. News and Announcements:


Jin-hee Lee (LAPL, Washington Irving Branch) - birth of a new son.- Will be on maternity leave until November.

Kyung-hyun Cho (Fullerton Seminary) - NACO Independence for Korean name authority record, which means that he can contribute authority records for names to the LC/ Name Authority Files without any reviewing by LC Reviewers.-

Happy Retirements to Joanne Kim (Pasadena City College) and Agnes Song (Beverly Hills Public Library).

Will look into participating in Korean American Government Employees Association workshop in the future.
