Meet Korean American Author Linda Sue Park

Hi all members:

I want to share some highlights from Linda Sue Park's program the other day [March 12, 2003].

1. She had two presentations on the day; one in the morning at the Central Library of Los Angeles Public Library and the other one at the Pio Pico Koreatown Branch of LAPL in the evening. For the morning session, she spoke to all the children's librarians from LAPL, some librarians from MCLS libraries, some local childrens' book authors and UCLA library school students. For the evening session, the audience was half children and half adults, mostly Korean Americans. Each session had about 110 -120 people.

2. Her speech was wonderful. She was a great speaker. Her speech was well organized, witty and full of her affection for Korean culture and history. She shared stories from her childhood, her writing career and future plans.

3.She seemed to be very proud of being a Korean American and she made us feel very proud of ourselves.

4. I spoke to her agent afterwards, and her agent told me that Linda Sue had said she enjoyed her visit to Los Angeles very much and hoped to come back soon.

5. I am very grateful to KALIPA members especially committee members, the Friends of Pio Pico Koreatown Branch, Korean Cultural Center, Friends of Children's Literature of LAPL, and staff from the Children's Services Department of LAPL for their support and hard work..

Everything went very smoothly and it was a great opportunity to let people know who KALIPA is and what we can do.

Thank you.

Youngsil.
